Feminist Perspective is a person regardless of gender who supports the equality of women with men. Feminist Perspective is concerned with the social, political, and economical equality of the sexes.
Although the author of “Woman Hollering Creek” is a female, there would not have been a difference to the story’s presentation, if a man with a Feminist Perspective had written the story.
Cisneros gives her heart to her readers in hopes of showing the reader that there is always a way out of an abusive situation. Cisneros also brings her family background into the story, Cisneros; much like Cleofilas comes from a family, which is comprised of seven male figures, a father, and six brothers. “Born in Chicago in 1954, Cisneros grew up in a family of six brothers and a father, or “seven fathers”, as she puts it.” (DiYanni 2007, 255)
Victimization of women in any situation is unfortunate but at time unavoidable.
The best way for a victim to attain freedom is to overcome fear, seek help, contact the authorities, and/or leave as soon as an opportunity arises.
Sandra Cisneros provides a feminist perspective with her pulsing and energetic story, “Woman Hollering Creek”. The story begins with Cleofilas remembering her marriage; and her father’s words of well wishes, which have so much more meaning to her now that she is a mother. Cleofilas looks back to the days before she is married and remembers how happy her life had been as a young woman. She married and immediately moved to Seguin, Texas, and wondered about the creek “La Gritona” or “Woman Hollering Creek” behind the house and the story behind it.
